Golnar & Mahan Trio draw together elements of contemporary jazz, middle Eastern and west African folk, poly-rhythmic grooves, Afro-Cuban and European chamber music to create an original international music with roots in a shared heritage.
Iranian-Canadian vocalist, composer, lyricist & multi-instrumentalist, Golnar Shahyar met in met Iranian-Austrian fretless guitarist and composer Mahan Mirarab, internationally active interpreter of Persian music through the medium of jazz.
Inseparable musical partners ever since, they confront mainstream understanding of contemporary music and pursue their collective vision in stunningly broad sound canvas of the Golnar & Mahan Trio, expertly and inventively complemented by master Austrian percussionist, Amir Wahba.
